PAWS FOR THOUGHT: Ania Boyne, from Fulwood, with Coco at the search for Annies companion audition

Preston Musical Comedy Society held auditions for Sandy, Annie’s canine counterpart at Harris Primary School, but, due to the petite size of their leading lady, couldn’t find a suitable match.

Mark Howard, from the Society said: “We had some great dogs turn up who were really good and friendly enough but they were a little too big for our Annie.

“It would have taken just one jump from them and she might have ended up in the pit!”

Dog owners are being encouraged to contact Mark if they think their performing pooch would be better suited to the role.

Mark said: “The sooner we find our Sandy, the better really because we’re running out of rehearsal time.”

Potential Sandys will need to be able to sit, stay and run when called.

Rehearsals are Mondays, Thursdays and Sunday afternoons and the show will them run from April 16-19 at the Charter Theatre, Preston with additional rehearsals running from the beginning of the week.

If you think your dog fits the bill bring them along to the audition venue where they can watch them walk and meet Annie and put them through their paces.

Director Julie Oldfield said: “I am so excited at casting our Sandy, as he plays such an important part in the show - befriending Annie and keeping her spirits up.”

Contact Mark Howard on 07946 005404 to arrange an audition.
