Preston has found its funniest comedian... but he’s from south London via Stockport.
AFC Baggy saw off competition from across the area to be named the city’s comedian of the year at the Frog and Bucket.
But despite hailing from Greater Manchester the funny man won over the crowd by sticking the boot into Preston’s neighbour, Chorley.
Baggy, 52, whose real name is Kevin Bagnall, told the crowd: “When I was 50 I had a tattoo done.
“My wife said to me ‘it’s no problem, as long as you get it done nowhere anyone really cares about’.
“So on the night I said I got it done in Chorley.”
Baggy is originally from south London and took the AFC part of his name from football team AFC Wimbledon.
He performed his first gig about four years ago but took a break from comedy after his stepson suddenly died in his sleep at the age of 29.
He said he was very proud of him, adding: “It was just his time – that’s how we look at it.”
Baggy, who works as a copywriter, was revealed as comedian of the year on Wednesday night.
He said: “It is quite emotional really. I was buzzing on the night but I still feel quite emotional, it’s a lovely feeling.
“People kept saying ‘you were really good, you were really funny’, and it’s nice getting the comments. I’m amazed how people find what I do funny, but they do.
“It was brilliant when they read my name out, I just felt this feeling inside of me and I was filling up a little bit.
“I didn’t know what to do, it was just lovely.”
He added: “When I was up on stage I just felt so good – it was the best I’ve performed.
“I didn’t aim for it to be that way, but that’s the love from the audience and their reaction.
“Everything I was saying, they were getting and they were laughing.”
Baggy won a cash prize and a paid weekend slot at the Frog and Bucket.
