It was Hard Times for those who couldn’t get a ticket.

Actor and director Gerald Dickens, the great great grandson of Victorian author Charles Dickens, brought his unique one man interpretation of his ancestor’s work, Nicholas Nickleby to Preston’s Charter Theatre on Monday.

The tour de force performance took place around the corner from the Bull and Royal pub where the writer famously stayed on a visit to our city.

His great great grandson popped in for a pint before his show and said, “It’s amazing to follow in his footsteps.”
