A Lancashire bookshop has scored a winner by signing up football legend Alex Ferguson.
SilverDell Books in Kirkham sold hundreds of the £40 tickets for the event within hours of announcing the November event.
Proprietor Elaine Silverwood said: “It’s incredible. He’s only doing five events in total and I’m unbelieveably proud that we’re the only independent shop.
“We’ve had some amazing names in recent years, including Michael Caine, Michael Parkinson and Ranulph Fiennes and I think that reflects our reputation.
“The publishers recognise that they can entrust us with top names.”
The event, on Thrusday, November 28, is billed as Alex Ferguson, Live in Conversation, and will be held at Kirkham Grammar School.
Elaine said that Sir Alex will also be expecting a little bonus when he visits Kirkham - his own tailor-made ice cream.
She said: “Apparently he’s been told about the ice cream I create. I did one for Jessica Ennis called Golden Jess and I’ll be doing one for Alex Ferguson as well.
“I’m not sure what I’m doing yet but I’ve got plenty of time to think about it.”
Sir Alex, 71, who is regarded by many as the best football manager of all time, will be appearing as part of a limited tour to launch his new autobiography “My Autobiography”.
He will be discussing his career, which ended in May when he retired after 27 years as manager of Manchester United, with presenter Mike Toolan from Radio Key 103.
Elaine said: “I’m so proud of my team, they have all worked so hard. The phone has never stopped ringing.”
