An author who has written a book inspired by previous Guilds visited schoolchildren to speak about the project.

Alison Boyle visited Walton-Le-Dale Primary School on Tuesday to discuss her book, ‘From Pakistan to Preston’, and to view a range of Guild flags made by the pupils.

The new book about life in the times of Preston Guilds has been highly successful for the former Grimsargh resident, who co-wrote the book with her father under the name A T Boyle.

The book tells a fictional love story about the relationship between a local man and an Asian woman set in the Guild years of 1972 and 2012.

Speaking about the workshop, Alison said: “It was great to spend time with the children. The school really gave an artistic response to the book and have taken the five Guild themes and created tiles to be framed and put on display.

Walton-le-Dale’s year six teacher, Gema Adams said: “The children enjoyed looking at all the props that Alison brought in with her to give them further understanding of the book.

“They love writing fiction stories themselves so it was great for them to meet her.

The book is available at Preston’s Guild Hall, the Museum of Lancashire and online at www.artificialsilk.org.
