Businesses across Preston are being urged to get involved in this year’s Guild City Games.

Following last year’s success, the games are due to return next month.

The popular event, organised by partners across the city, is set to kick off with a golf competition at Ashton and Lea Golf Club on June 6.

The following day, businesses will battle it out in sports including football, rugby, rounders, netball, and athletics at UCLan Sports Arena.

Stephen Daley, captain of Preston Council football team, said: “As Preston Council is the current reigning champion of the City Games 5 a-side tournament, we welcome challenges from any company or organisation that think they have the ability and skill to remove us from the winner’s podium in 2014.”

The games will conclude with the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce dragon boat race at Preston Docks on Sunday June 8. Last year’s games hosted 67 businesses and more than 300 individuals.

Activities this year include badminton, football, netball, rounders, rugby, running, table tennis, golf, dragon boat racing and solve challenge.

Wendy Harrison, owner of Preston’s Cafe Fresch, was part of Shout Network’s winning rounders team at last year’s games.

She will take part in this year’s games and said she couldn’t wait for the events.

She said: “I think it’s a follow-on really from the Guild.

“I think it’s showing people Preston is still a city and there are things happening.

“It’s good for the businesses to be involved and show their support by being part of it.”

Wendy described last year’s games as “good fun” and “hilarious”. She said: “I’m looking forward to this year’s event so much.”
