Fresh from conquering the US with their chart-topping hit single Glad You Came, The Wanted swept into Preston to play at 53 Degrees as part of Hits Radio’s Future Hits Live in association with UCLan.
They took to the stage alongside Lawson, Angel, Sam and The Womp, N-Dubz star Fazer, and X Factor’s Amelia Lily, and after one chorus of Chasing The Sun it was clear why they topped the line-up.
The band’s popularity was evident as the atmosphere, charged with anticipation, erupted when the crowd was told The Wanted were actually in the building.
The excitement surrounding them was immense as presenters Aileen and Darren announced a raffle where the lucky winner won a chance to go backstage and meet the band.
After a pretty successful warm up, the crowd greeted The Wanted to the stage with high-pitched screams, plenty of hysteria and the odd bra.
Their performance certainly did not disappoint either. With a simple Future Hits Live backdrop, the focus was solely on the five heartthrobs.
Personal scepticism well and truly laid to rest, the band can really sing. Their playful attitude on stage, exuding confidence and charisma, clearly shows how much they enjoy their job. It’s a good life.
The fans’ devotion as The Wanted played their way through hit singles such as Chasing The Sun, Glad You Came, All Time Low and Lightning, was obvious.
Band member Max George, who was on the books of Preston North End, showed their American success hasn’t eclipsed their roots as he cheered to the crowd: “It’s nice to be home. Nothing can beat being back home in England.”
To the dismay of many teenage girls the band exited after around half an hour, and it seemed chants of “We want more” were unfortunately to go unanswered.
Despite this, their stage presence was impressive and the band certainly knew how to leave the crowd wanting more.
The Wanted are definitely still just beginning their chart-topping success.
