Preston student Lucy-Ella Smith is reaching for the stars.... literally.
For the 18 -year-old songstress will be taking to the stage for a star-studded weekend of entertainment, singing in front of up to 8,000 people at this year’s Lytham Proms
The talented scholar from Preston’s College is no stranger to the event, she appeared at the festival weekend in 2011.
She proved such a hit that she has been asked to sing again this year, to mark the Proms’ fifth anniversary and will join a star-studded line-up, headlined by international singing sensation Tom Jones.
Last time around the BTEC musical theatre student she supported big-name acts including Boyzone, Katherine Jenkins and Status Quo after being crowned winner of the Fylde’s Got Talent competition.
She is going back to the St Vincent’s Road, Fulwood, college in September do a to HNC in performing arts and hopes to attend drama school in London after that.
Lucy-Ella has been singing since she was nine years old and has had leading roles with both Preston’s Musical Comedy Society and college.
She recently took the lead role in the college production of Jekyll and Hyde at the Guild Hall’s Charter Theatre and previously took on the role of Maureen when the college staged the acclaimed musical, Rent.
She said; “It’s really exciting to be asked back and I can’t wait to sing at the Proms again, especially when I’ll be on the same bill as someone as famous as Tom Jones.”
Lucy-Ella added: “Something like this is fantastic to have as a credential and could even be a stepping stone to more opportunities in the future.”
Jane Tudor, assistant head of performing arts at Preston’s College said: “Lucy-Ella is a true talent and it’s a huge achievement to be asked to perform at the Proms a second time.
“Everyone at the college is very proud and we’re looking forward to cheering her on.”
