A POPULAR brass band is preparing for a huge competition - where it will battle be crowned the champions of Great Britain.
Leyland Band will head to London in October to compete in the National Championships of Great Britain.
The competition venue is at the famous Royal Albert Hall, where 20 of the country’s top bands will compete for the title of 2013 Champion Band of Great Britain.
The annual event draws crowds of 4000 to witness the very best in brass performance.
The band’s events and concert manager Gary Westwood said: “Leyland Band ranks in the top 10 bands in the world, a marvellous achievement for a dedicated group of amateur musicians who perform to professional standards.
“Leyland Band performs concerts and events around the UK and beyond, and in May this year enjoyed a very successful trip to Oslo, Norway where they represented England in the European Brass Band Championships.”
Ahead of the trip to London the band, will be invoking the feeling of Albert Hall with a special Brass at the Proms concert in St John’s Minster, Preston, on Sunday.
The concert is part of the growing Preston Arts annual festival. Proceeds from the event will help the band towards the costs of competing in London.
