Preston’s One Voice Community Choir has missed out on being crowned as the first ever Gospel Choir of the Year.
But the group of city singers were widely praised by judges including soul singer Ruby Turner, who said every choir member had a strong voice..
Fellow judge, Carrie Grant, vocal coach and television presenter, said of the choir’s rendition of Kumbaya: “This is the choir I most want to join. Every one of you gave 100 per cent.”
The judges handed the title to Birmingham’s Town Hall Choir, the hosts of the event, which was screened on the BBC’s Songs of Praise programme yesterday afternoon.
