A folk duo from Preston have made the final of a worldwide music competition.

Richard Birtill and Francesca Cullen, also known as Changing Horses, were told their song ‘Cut All Strings’ was through to the Grand final of the Youbloom Music Awards 2012 to compete for the winning prize of 10,000 Euros.

Francesca, who is originally from Penwortham, said: “I entered us into the competition a while ago and completely forgot about it.

“The competition has taken place over several rounds over the course of 11 months with more than 3500 song entries.

“we have come so far already it would be a real shame to miss out on the big prize and not have the chance to fly the flag for Preston.”

The Youbloom Awards is an annual online competition for song-writting that has, in previous years, been judged by the likes of Bob Geldof, Nigel Grainge and Rupert Hine.

Nigel Grainge and Rupert Hine returned this year to judge the 2012 semi-final and now the public will nominate their winner.

Currently standing fourth out of eight entries, Francescais willing her fellow Prestonians to get behind the duo.

She said: “We would love to drum up local support and votes as we’re a Preston band through and through.”

Votes for Changing Horses can be cast at http://www.youbloom.com/ybsc/entry/3058/

The winner is announced on Sunday.
