Continuing to bring folk music to the masses, Friends of Folk stage their March gig this weekend.
Featuring a trio of female voices , The Bailey Sisters, Alyson Rainey, Karen Dyson and Shelley Rainey, produce music ranging from the thirteenth century to very contemporary renditions.
With Karen on guitar, Alyson on fiddle and well known for their unaccompanied ‘a cappella’ style, the trio are products of singing tuition from the Steeleye Span legend Maddy Prior and in 2013 they will again be appearing at Maddy’s Stepping Stones Folk Festival in Cumbria.
A favourite with audiences is their self-penned song ‘The Bells of Tallin’ telling the story of what happened to church bells during the communist era in Estonia.
The gig takes place on Saturday March 2 at New Longton Village Hall, Boundary Close, New Longton, Preston, PR4 4BD and starts at 8pm.
Tickets are priced at £8 and can be purchased on-line from.fofshop.com or by calling Jim Minall on 07837-367560.
They are also available to buy on the door.
