The organiser of a music festival due to take place in Preston has spoken of his disappointment after the event had to be cancelled.

Prestival was due to be held in Avenham Park in September this year, with well-known names coming to the city.

But the ambitious event will no longer go ahead, with bad weather and the park’s essential drainage works blamed for its cancellation.

Organiser Rick Moore said: “It’s just one of those things, it’s 10 months’ work that has been lost but it’s something that can’t be helped.”

He said Preston Council hadn’t signed off the festival, but said officials had been “very supportive”.

Rick, 47, said: “It was just circumstances and there was no point in me submitting production schedules for an event that may or may not have a venue.

“I had a team of volunteers and the idea was we would get it going in the first year on a decent scale and that would mean everybody involved would work for 12 months voluntarily.

“Then, from then on, we could be working in the same role but paid, but obviously this has completely interfered with those plans.”

A council spokesman said the ground in the parks would need to recover after the works, which could take until at least September.

He said: “He is welcome to come back with a robust proposal for a large scale event – the ground will be in a fit condition next year and in future years for us to stage large scale events.”
