A fun-filled festival celebrating Preston by Night is set to lift the January gloom.
Prestfest, an initiative to profile the city centre’s night-time offering, will hit venues and the streets from Thursday to Saturday evenings from January 30.
The campaign began in October 2011, following the city centre securing the coveted Purple Flag status for a vibrant, safe, well-managed, late night offer.
Since then it has grown into a weekend of special offers, live entertainment and street performances, gaining national recognition from the Association of Town Centre Management.
Jessica Toomey, operator of Preston’s Frog & Bucket Comedy Club and chair of BID’s Preston By Night Group said: “Being the only destination in the county to fly the Purple Flag, we are on a mission to shout about why our city centre is a great place to visit at night.
“We held a Prestfest weekend in May 2013, to great acclaim, boosting footfall and trade in many quarters – this time, it will be even bigger and as an economy, we’re really excited”.
The celebration, organised and funded by the Business Improvement District on behalf of the businesses it represents, will see thousands of Prestfest guides delivered to households across the area containing special offers and information on events and activities across the weekend.
This will be boosted by a significant e-media campaign and arrangements with local radio stations and other media.
Mark Whittle, BID’s events manager said: “Prestfest is unique and we make the most of that fact. We saw visitors from as far away as Hull, Leeds, Liverpool and even Scotland last time.
“We’ll capitalise on this once again to promote Preston as THE destination for a vibrant and safe night out
“We’re working with more than 50 venues to offer visitors the ultimate experience and we’ll be offering them the chance to win a share of £1,000 to pay for their night out when they visit”.
Key attractions are being kept a closely-guarded secret. It runs until February 1.
