City centre bosses are pulling out all the stops to ensure that Christmas in Preston will be the best ever.
The Flag Market is set to be transformed into a Winter wonderland featuring an outdoor ice rink surrounded by traditional log cabins serving festive food and drink.
And a star studded line up for the Christmas Lights Switch on later this month has been revealed, featuring The Feeling front man Dan Gillespie Sells and Simon Cowell’s latest protégés Luminites as well as singer Gabriella Cilmi.
The festive season in the city will also see a two-day Christmas market featuring more than 100 stalls and a an exclusive Christmas guide to the city centre’s key destinations will be handed out to 30,000 shoppers over the period.
Preston’s Business Improvement District has ploughed £50,000 into the Christmas lights that will be erected across the city, including along Fishergate, Friargate, Lune Street and Winckley Square.
And in an effort to spruce up the entrance to the city for shoppers winter planting will also take place in flower boxes throughout the city centre.
The Chairman of BIDS’s Christmas Planning group Andrew Stringer of St George’s said: “Once again, we believe we compete with any other major town or city in the North West in terms of entertainment and the unique mix our retailers offer customers.
“The people of Preston have always supported our traders at Christmas and we are pulling out all the stops to ensure the same happens this year.”
