A teenage girl had to be rescued by firefighters after getting stuck in a baby's swing after "a lark" on a Lancashire seafront.
The crew from Morecambe fire station were called to Marine Drive Central in Morecambe at 9pm on Tuesday after friends of the 14-year-old phoned for help.

Watch manager Tim Morrell, of the resort's station, said the girl was "quite embarrassed" at the incident which happened at a children's play area on the promenade.

He said: "She had been playing around on the swing and slipped right down into it and then realised she could not get herself out of it.

"We just clipped her out and let her go on her way. I do not know how long she had been stuck there but she seemed pretty relieved to get out."

she should of been left in it. Teenagers think they area law to themselves. She shouldn't of been in it and she should be made to wash the fireengines for 6 months to cover the cost of them being call out. Incidents like this are a mis-use of the fire service and should be deal with, with harsh punishments.

I think that's a bit harsh. There is no mention in the story that she was 'up to no good' or anything like that.

A bit of harmless fun.

And not such a misuse of the fire service as they are there to provide a fire and rescue service after all.

At least she wasn't robbing a pensioner at knife-point or beating up other kids.

david c i agree wiv pne supporter u cant go round sayin stuff like that! firstly im all for the yobs of today gettin a severe punishment but what harm was this young girl doing?? she was in a place built for the younger generation of today larking around with her m8s not abusing anybody or causing trouble wiv anyone i mean c,mon your telling me as a teen u never messed at the park wiv your m8s and stood on the baby swings??? it happens and if she was doin anything wrong i would be the 1st to stick my opinion in but she wasnt and its through people like u that provoke the younger people into getting aggresive through defense because thru the actual idiots that are out there the innocent ones are being labelled because people read thru the lines and just assume! is my point being heard?????????????????

I agree. The first comment is a bit harsh. 14-year-olds do silly things all the time. When I was at an amusement park at around this age, one of my friends was leaning on the railing while in line for an attraction. She pushed her knee through the wooden slats on the railing and the engineering department had to be called to cut her out because she didn't realize her knee was swelling up. She now has a PhD in Statistical Research and heads one of the departments at a world renowned clinic. Basically, she was just being a silly teen. Now, we get to bring up this story by saying,"Remember when you weren't so bright?" Personally I would rather they were having fun and congregating in a public park than in a parking lot or streetcorner. For their sakes as well as everyone else's.

They swings for toddlers, what would u say if a family died in a fire 5 miles up the road because they was busy cutting her free. There is such a thing as miss use of the fire service. That call out cost Tax payers. Thats the fuel, time of 5 firemen, etc. All because some teacher thought she would sit in a toddlers swing. Harsh maybe, but it would of been a lot harsher if lives were lost elsewhere.

David C - lighten up! Were you born middle aged?! I doubt very much that lives would have been lost in an instance such as this - priority and prioritise are the key words here. I did exactly what this young girl did when I was about 12, my dad had to get me out in the end. I am a well adjusted, respectable person who earns an honest living and contributes to society and my "swing" episode doesn't mean I turned into a delinquent. I don't mean to be rude to you David, but the girl was only having a laugh, like PNE supporter said, she wasn't robbing pensioners.
