More than 70 holidaymakers refused to fly home after they were told by the crew that they had to sit at the back of the plane to balance it out.
A jammed door to the hold meant suitcases were loaded at the front of the Mallorca to Newcastle flight, so passengers were told to leave their allocated seats and move down the plane.

But many refused to be carried on the flight and had to arrange an alternative flight themselves, up to a day later.

The reaction of the passengers is understandable. I doubt if there are precise guidelines on how to balance an airliner in these situations. The normal location of luggage must help to lower the centre of gravity. A recent light aircraft accident may have caused by overcrowding or an incorrect balance. The airline should have flown the luggage home separately.
