Electric nail files have been deemed the most pointless gadget of all time in a new survey - knocking the electric tin opener from the unwanted perch.
The files, which you can buy for as much as £205, are supposed to give 'technician' results on nails to give a perfect shape and smooth finish.

But in reality folk are just as happy with a manual nail file costing less than two quid in the local supermarket.

Laser guided scissors, which are supposed to help you cut a perfect straight line, are the second most useless item listed in the top 20.

Hundreds of people polled deemed the scissors useless as they don't help people with unsteady hands - the laser is attached to the scissors; so when the hand shakes so does the light.

The poll of 4,500 Brits was conducted by www.reevoo.com, the website which gives customers the opportunity to read thousands of reviews written by real shoppers.

Six months ago the electric tin opener is the worst household gadget invented, according to another poll.
