Friends and neighbours have paid tribute to a 78-year-old devoted husband and grandfather killed in a crash in Lancashire.
Frank Roocroft suffered multiple injuries after his Honda Goldwing bike collided with a car in Bolton Street, Chorley at 4.10pm on Friday.

Today, neighbours paid tribute to grandfather-of-four Mr Roocroft who had lived in St James'S Place for more than 50 years.

Neighbour Julie Stringfellow, 44, said: "He was real salt of the earth, he would do absolutely anything for anybody.

"Anybody who wanted any help, he would be there. He didn't need asking twice, in fact he didn't need asking once most times, he just seemed to know.

"He loved his motorbikes. If you said Frank and motorbikes everyone in Chorley would know who you were talking about.

"He was a good and loyal friend and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. He was a Chorley character and there's not many of those left."

Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, but has lived near Mr Roocroft for 42 years, said: "He was a family man, a good husband, a good father and a good grandfather.

"It is dreadful news, we just can't take it in. It has stunned us all.

"He was always a very kind and generous person. We saw him daily and we were very, very close.

"I have lost a very good neighbour - we all have."

The accident happened at 4.10pm on Friday. Bolton Street was closed for more than three hours after the collision.

Police say Mr Roocroft had been turned into Bolton Street near its junction with Leigh Street and into the path of the Subaru, being driven by a local man.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0845 1 253545.
