Campaigners opposed to moving the Royal Lancashire Show to land north of Preston today unveiled a dossier of objections to the plan.
The No2DuchyPark campaign group will raise a raft of concerns over fears of traffic chaos when the annual show moves to former quarry land at Myerscough.
The concerns will be voiced by members of the group at a meeting of Preston Council's rural area forum which has been called to discuss traffic management plans ahead of the three-day spectacular from July 18-20.
The group is concerned that:
- There will be complete gridlock between the motorway roundabout and Broughton crossroads traffic lights.
- The narrow White Horse Lane, which was to be set aside only for emergency vehicles, could be used by competitors and staff, too.
- Car parks will not be emptied by 7pm.
- A diversionary route to take traffic from East Lancashire off the A6 will not be properly enforced, meaning more chaos on the congested main road.
Keith McKernan, of No2DuchyPark, said: "What we want is an admission there are problems and how they can specifically deal with those problems. We hope this time we will get the answers to the questions that have never been answered."
The campaign group's document says: "In particular, the A6 is quoted as having a spare capacity of 800 vehicles per hour, even though this appears to be completely at odds with everyday experiences between Broughton traffic lights and the motorway roundabout."
