A pensioner has been rushed to hospital after smashing her car into a lamppost.
The 82-year-old, who was travelling alone in what is believed to be a Peugeot 407, hit the lamppost in Kingsway West, Penwortham, at shortly after 4pm on Thursday.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene and she was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital suffering chest bruising and facial injuries.

It is not known at this stage how serious her injuries are.

The road had to be closed until around 6pm while the debris was cleared.

Police have now launched an investigation into the crash.
