Commuters in Preston are facing more delays after more road works brought traffic to a crawling pace on a major road.
Road re-surfacing work on Tom Benson Way and Tag Lane, Ingol, has left loose chippings on the surface and a recommended speed limit has been set at 20mph.

Bill Shannon, councillor for Ingol, said: "The job doesn't seem to have been finished.

"I am going to raise it with the Highways people when I am at County Hall.

"It is bad enough with paintwork of cars being chipped but there is the occasional chance it could kick up and hit pedestrians.

"I have not heard of it happening but it is always a slight risk."

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council confirmed the signs are only advisory and the work is scheduled to be completed by the end of the week.

Meanwhile, residents and businesses affected by the controversial closure of a main road into a Lancashire village have been hit again – after a new pipe started leaking.

United Utilities and Balfour Beatty closed the main road between Longridge and Chipping, between Arbour Lane Ends and Cockleach Lane Ends, for several weeks in March this year so a major refurbishment of a water main could be carried out.

But this week some of the road has had to be shut off again.

A water leak was reported outside the Derby Arms pub at Longridge on Tuesday.

The restriction will remain in place until the end of the week while pressure tests are carried out.

But that will not be the end of traffic woes on the road. Next week one lane of the road at Arbour Lane Ends will be closed again for a day in order to carry out resurfacing work.

A spokesman for United Utilities said: "A leak was reported outside the Derby Arms, which we repaired on Tuesday.

"We used temporary lights to control the traffic and these will be removed by the end of the week, as soon as pressure tests confirm that the repair was a success and the road has been permanently reinstated."
