This was the chaotic scene after a truck careered down a Preston street and toppled onto its side.
Staff at a nearby shop looked on in amazement as the white tipper lorry went rolling down Kent Street with the driver nowhere in sight.

Fortunately, nobody was injured although police say it seems the fronts of two houses suffered a bit of damage in the incident.

A passer-by said: "I was on my way to the chippy to get my curry - nobody was injured but it could have been so different.

"It rolled down the hill and stopped 30ft away from the cafe - it has stopped half on the road, half on the pavement."

A police spokesman said: "We were called just after 11.30am by the ambulance service who had calling saying there was a lorry on its side at the junction of Kent Street and St George's Road."

Officers arranged for the truck to be towed away and police were on Wednesday afternoon waiting for the owner to get in touch.

Great sensationalist journalistic headline: "Lorry careers out of control." Perhaps it would be more accurate if it read: "Van rolls down hill." Still, that's why I'm not a scribe I guess.

Good Shout our Canadian friend .....here's an example of the use if careered.....

"So I was in my car, and I was driving along, and my boss rang up, and he said 'You've been promoted.' And I swerved. And then he rang up a second time and said "You've been promoted again.' And I swerved again. He rang up a third time and said 'You're managing director.' And I went into a tree.
And a policeman came up and said 'What happened to you?' I said 'I careered off the road.'

A miracle has occured!!!!! a lep headline I agree with!! A just hope the owner of the lorry is prosecuted and fined for the police time they took up, the danger to the public they caused and the damage they caused to the houses.
