This was the dramatic moment two criminals were captured as they travelled on the M6.
Fortunately the 'offenders' were police officers taking part in a training exercise between Lancashire's armed response unit and its motorway officers.
Operation Integrate aims to improve how the two units work together in situations where armed criminals take to the county's motorway network.
In recent years there have been several incidents where armed criminals have been thwarted on the motorway.
Just two weeks ago police had reason to suspect that offenders who pointed a gun at a Preston taxi driver in Clayton Brook, near Chorley, were on the M65.
During the exercise motorway officers made the highway safe for users with roadblocks, which allowed armed officers to home in on the 'suspects'.
The Evening Post was invited on the exercise, between junction 32 at Broughton and Forton services near Lancaster.
Sgt Sean Cunningham said: "Armed criminals on Lancashire's motorway network will be stopped and dealt with."
Insp Phil Cottam added: "The motorway environment is particularly dangerous. It is important our officers are trained to deal with it."
