Five people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a car hit a tree in Lancashire.
The Fiat Punto they were travelling in left the road at Wood Lane, Great Altcar, near Formby, just before 2am on Wednesday.

Firecrews freed three people from the wreckage using boltcars and a ram.

Four people were taken to Southport Hospital and a fifth to Fazakerley Hospital in Liverpool with serious injuries.

The road was closed until 6am.
