A sports car driver was airlifted to hospital and seven others needed treatment after a three-car smash in Lancashire.
The accident happened on the A59 Preston New Road at Samlesbury, near Preston, outside the Swallow Trafalgar Hotel.

A silver Peugeot 307, with five people on board, collided with a gold MGF soft-top driven by a woman.

The MGF then spun and collided with a grey Volvo V40 with two adults and two children inside.

999 crews were alerted at 1.27pm on Sunday and firefighters freed the MGF driver and the front passenger from the Peugeot.

All five people from the Peugeot, including a baby, were taken to hospital for check-ups, along with a woman and an older child in the Volvo who suffered minor injuries.

All the casualties were taken to the Royal Preston Hospital, except one who went to the Royal Blackburn Infirmary.

The road was closed while accident investigators checked the scene.
