An admission that the Parkwise scheme cannot go on in its current format has been welcomed by a senior councillor.
The current scheme is expected to lose £1m.

A proposed change, which would see Lancashire County Council look after on-street parking and district councils look after off-street parking, was put forward earlier this month.

And the Conservative group's sustainable development spokesman Coun Keith Young said: "Parkwise has alienated the general public and businesses in all the towns in Lancashire. It has created public confusion and caused disputes with our key partners, the district councils."

He also welcomed the move by council bosses to "fully consult and set up a cross party committee that will look at all the issues" surrounding the scheme.
