Preston North End boss Alan Irvine has dismissed reports linking him with a move for Blackpool defender Kaspars Gorkss.
A host of national newspapers had claimed the Latvian international was set for Deepdale this summer.

However, Irvine told the Lancashire Evening Post that it was nothing but paper talk.

"I don't know where the story has come from, I really don't," he said.

"I can understand us being linked with every Scottish player that is available, but this one is pure speculation."

Reports suggested that Gorkss, along with fellow Pool star Wes Hoolahan, has a clause in his contract which would allow him to leave on the cheap at the end of the current season.

The 25-year-old has caught the eye this season with a number of superb performances at the heart of the Seasiders' defence.

He arrived at Bloomfield Road for an undisclosed fee in January 2007 from Latvian champions FC Ventspils.

I know he plays for the lashers, but i was impressed with this lad, a recent game,he cut his head open in a clash of heads, and ran down the tunnel, had it stitched, and back out in no time. Why do i write this? well North end need players like this, a hard man in the back two.

Brig - ran down the tunnel to get stitches on his head. Isn't that what Cal did a few weeks back. Although he is a very good player not sure where he would fit into our team.

If you watch the video clip, Al looks a little bit shifty when asked about Kaspars Gorkss. He replies in a wider context and looks almost guilty to me... Maybe there is some truth in this one after all?
