Ross Wallace has defended his celebration after netting Preston North End's equaliser in the derby draw at Blackpool.
The Scottish winger curled home a 20-yard free-kick and ran to celebrate in front of North End's 1,700 travelling fans housed in the temporary East Stand at Bloomfield Road.
A section of the supporters spilled forward from their seats and a steward was knocked to the floor.
Wallace was booked by referee Kevin Friend, a punishment he was quick to defend himself against – as did PNE boss Alan Irvine.
The 24-year-old said: "I slid along the touchline, I didn't go off the pitch.
"When I was being booked the referee told me it was for encouraging the fans to go on to the pitch.
"I didn't do that, it's a stupid rule about goal celebrations – at least I didn't take my shirt off this time."
Wallace crossed his arms as he celebrated the St Andrew's Day goal, explaining it was 'something for my pals back home in Scotland'.
The 38th minute free-kick levelled the scores after Blackpool had taken the lead after just 25 seconds through Billy Clarke.
Irvine felt Wallace was hard done by with the yellow card as he reflected on a hard-fought 1-1 draw.
He said: "First of all, let me say it was a fantastic free-kick, top quality from Ross.
"But if you're going to start to take celebrations out of the equation than it will be a poorer game."
