Ross Wallace has defended his celebration after netting Preston North End's equaliser in the derby draw at Blackpool.
The Scottish winger curled home a 20-yard free-kick and ran to celebrate in front of North End's 1,700 travelling fans housed in the temporary East Stand at Bloomfield Road.

A section of the supporters spilled forward from their seats and a steward was knocked to the floor.

Wallace was booked by referee Kevin Friend, a punishment he was quick to defend himself against – as did PNE boss Alan Irvine.

The 24-year-old said: "I slid along the touchline, I didn't go off the pitch.

"When I was being booked the referee told me it was for encouraging the fans to go on to the pitch.

"I didn't do that, it's a stupid rule about goal celebrations – at least I didn't take my shirt off this time."

Wallace crossed his arms as he celebrated the St Andrew's Day goal, explaining it was 'something for my pals back home in Scotland'.

The 38th minute free-kick levelled the scores after Blackpool had taken the lead after just 25 seconds through Billy Clarke.

Irvine felt Wallace was hard done by with the yellow card as he reflected on a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

He said: "First of all, let me say it was a fantastic free-kick, top quality from Ross.

"But if you're going to start to take celebrations out of the equation than it will be a poorer game."

HA HA. It got funnier with every replay they showed.

Vile club, pathetic stadium.

whilst Alan Irvine was heard (SKY interview) to say "I can understnad why he got booked" but the fact of the matter is:-

a) he did not take off his shirt
b) in going to the PNE fans he stopped 3 yards short of the fence

so why is this a bookable offence? if anything, the temporary stand (The Gene Kelly Stand!) was not sufficient and to have a 63yr old man sat there oblivious to everything around him is not Ross Wallace's fault. This should NOT have been a booking (imho) !

If your gonna get booked for it he should've took his shirt off and dived into the crowd.

Or maybe the usless referee decided to book him for havinf the audacity to score against Blackpoo

If their scaffolding wasn't such a disgrace there wouldn't have been a problem!!

Any other stadium would not have this problem yet the Lashers continually have it allowed!!

Stoke broke the stand a few years ago and they were injured. Now a steward is injured..... it needs to be shut down asap before someone gets killed.

Incidentally, not many Lashers about this morning? Oh yeh that's because they yhave all crawled back under their stones JUST AS I PREDICTED!!!

Crispy Chris, Cliffo et al..... WHERE ARE YOU??!!

Spot on Man of Reason - I was there, looking down from the back of the supposed stand, and if anything Mr Friend did more to incite trouble for booking a player who did not breach the laws of the game - he did not leave the field of play.

Had the player done the same thing in front of a proper advertising hoarding with proper supprts and barriers then the thing would not have collapsed - ground safety was the issue, not the celebration.

For the life of me I cannot understand why an almost completed stand could not have been used - alright the facilities may not be completed, but they couls still have kept the access to the temporary toilets, food etc, just block off the tunnels to enter and exit and we wouldn't be taliking about this.

Blackpool had hoped to open the stand for the Newcastle game, some 2 months ago, why not for this one. It's not a gripe at Blackpool the club, but the officials and bureaucracy that are power crazy and treat supporters as second class citizens.

The Stand needs a safety certificate before it can open. No certificate, not allowed to be open!

Incidentally, did anyone else see 'Our Charlie'.

Looked terribly unfit (too many late nights in the Residence in Poulton) and needed to be fed after an hour with energy bars.

Was well and truly bossed by Tonge and Chappy.

Ross Wallace >>>>>>>>> Charlie Adam

Serve s him right for not moving the silly old fool. If it was a proper stand with proper fencing it never would have happened!!

Charlie Adam, more like Charlie Caroli.

Still think we're playing too much 'hoof and hope' (with the ball invariably going to the opposition)and that Blackpool gave us an on-the-deck footballing lesson in the first half. Pool's first-half performance was vibrant - not an adjective I would use for our's. We have a lot of work to do in training for inter-passing and movement off the ball. And, please Al, Parry on the right, Wallace on the left. Bring Sedge on for his workrate when we've taken command.

A Moral victory says the west country goon that is Donkey Lashers manager. Honestly maybe if the ref was so biased in favour of the home team we might have got more out the game. Wallace...a hero!!!!!!!!!
