Waywell's got the Wright stuff
Chorley chairman Ken Wright is convinced new manager Steve Waywell has the right credentials to bring the good times back to Victory Park.
Former Magpies player Waywell is the new man at the helm at Victory Park, replacing Tony Hesketh, who returned to UniBond North rivals Lancaster City last month.
"It is a super appointment, Steve Waywell has massive experience in the non-league game and a lot of contacts," said Wright. "He had six years at Curzon Ashton, seven at Leigh RMI and as long at Hyde United, and he did very well at every club.
"He knows Chorley, having played here for a couple of spells, so hopefully we can get that longevity from Steve he had at his other clubs. We desperately need that because we've seen too many managers come and go in the last few years.
"We had a tried and tested manager with Tony Hesketh who had done an an excellent job, and I was amazed when he decided to turn his back on that progress he had achieved at Chorley to go elsewhere.
"But that's gone now and we've got to look to the future, and Steve realises Chorley's great potential."
Wright says he is hoping to announce a new club sponsor this week, which would be welcome news for the cash-strapped club.
He added that Waywell would not be making wholesale changes to the Magpies squad, although he hopes to strengthen the squad over the summer months.
"Every player will be given an opportunity to perform for the new manager and he will also have his own ideas who he wants to bring in," added Wright.
"We have a good foundation to build on from last season, there's a lot to be positive about. The biggest factor, I think, is Steve's character and determination to do well. He is not a vociferous man, but he is a very committed individual with a lot of great qualities.
"He wants to bring success back to Chorley and hopefully he will be able to kick-start us again."
Meanwhile, former Lancaster boss Barrie Stimpson, who left Giant Axe earlier this season, has taken charge at West Lancashire League outfit Garstang.
