Striker still heading Sammy's target list
Sammy McIlroy has targeted three new signings – with a striker at the top of his hit list.
Morecambe's wheeler-dealer boss is desperate to build on last season's 11th-place finish in League Two and he has already held transfer discussions with at least one prospective target.
He said: "I'm scouring the country for a striker and I've made some good progress.
"The player I'm talking to has a good record and excellent experience, but it is just a waiting game now because there is also interest from elsewhere.
"While a forward is a priority – I want to sign three other players in different positions.
"Like any manager in this league, I'm working to a budget.
"But I've been working night and day to bring the right people in and if I can I will."
The Shrimps have already had a 42,000 bid for Ebbsfleet striker Michael Gash rejected.
The offer was 12,000 more than Luton Town tabled for the 22-year-old, who scored 12 goals last season.
Shrimps vice-chairman Graham Hodgson said: "We think it's a substantial bid but Ebbsfleet have told us they are not prepared to sell."
Ebbsfleet are owned by MyFootballClub, an internet subscription website, who hold votes on issues such as potential transfers both in and out.
Of the 2,188 members who voted on Morecambe's bid, only 164 were in favour.
