Stanley’s keeper is unbeatable

Morecambe 0 Accrington 0

Morecambe are still awaiting their first Football League win against Accrington after they were thwarted by visiting keeper Ian Dunbavin.

The Stanley stopper saved a 92nd-minute penalty from Richard Brodie to deny Morecambe a win they deserved.

Dunbavin stood between the Shrimps and victory with three world-class saves and a number of vital blocks in a game the home side dominated.

Dunbavin, who had a loan spell at Morecambe a number of years ago, made an early save from Jack Redshaw and grew in confidence as the evening wore on.

He made two wonder saves in the first half, flying to his right-hand side on 26 minutes to tip away a stinging Jack Redshaw drive, before following that up by pushing away a Lewis Alessandra curler on the half-hour.

Alessandra went close early in the second half with a left-foot strike that hit the underside of the bar, but then wasted a golden chance to give Morecambe the lad on 58 minutes but produced the miss of the season when he missed an open goal from one yard out.

The ball squirmed across the goal from the left and Alessandra looked sure to score but somehow failed to find the target.

Stanley hit back after that miss and had a short spell on top themselves with Morecambe keeper Barry Roche saving superbly from a Charlie Barnett free-kick and a Yammy Osawe looping header.

It was Morecambe who pressed at the end and they looked set to seal the victory when they were awarded a 92nd-minute penalty when Dean Winnard bundled over Kevin Ellison in the box.

Brodie stepped up to take the responsibility but his spot-kick was superbly saved by Dunbavin who capped an outstanding performance to deny the Shrimps.
