Leyland Lions Junior Squash and Racketball Club held a South Ribble primary schools’ minisquash event at Leyland Leisure Centre.

It is the first time that a squash and racketball club in Lancashire and the North West of England has held such an event.

Unfortunately, due to the festive season and school events, Walton-le-Dale and Lever House primary schools were unable to take part.

Four primary schools – Leyland Methodist, St Catherine’s, Lostock Hall Community and Woodlea – took part with four children (two girls and two boys) representing their
schools.

HAYS Education – who are based in Preston – sponsored the event, while Balshaws High School’s head of girls’ PE Danielle Gladki allowed Jemma Gough and Emily Worthington time off to come and help with the marketing and scoring of the event.

Minisquash – for five to 10-year-olds – offers an ideal introduction to squash. The game is played using specialised equipment designed to help children.
