Solskjaer's Reds to visit AFC Fylde

Manchester United's rising stars will be the first visitors to step on to AFC Fylde's new playing surface in six weeks' time.

Costing 26,000, work has now been completed to rip out and replace the old Kellamergh Park pitch and eliminate the root of so many postponements last season.

Promoted Fylde will roll out the red carpet for United's reserve team boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his young bucks on Friday, July 17, confident conditions will be perfect for the illustrious scene-setter to their debut UniBond League season.

The ground's makeover was carried out by Longridge firm Danvic.

Fylde had to fork out 5,000 during the season to patch up parts of the pitch to prevent falling impossibly behind with their fixtures.

Several games were switched to Squires Gate FC, which club president David Haythornthwaite knows wasn't ideal.

He said: "Hopefully we'll now have a first-class pitch.

"It's costing us 26,000, which for us a fortune, especially as in two years it is our intention to move to a new site.

"So we're trying to spend the least amount of money at Kellamergh Park while making sure we play our games."

The North West Counties League champions went two months without a home game, and Haythornthwaite added: "Games back up tremendously so you're playing four times a week at the end of the season.

"You put yourself under unnecessary pressure and we don't want that in the UniBond."

Ticket details for the United match will be released soon.
