Shrimps swoop for Shrews' Moss
Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy has made his first signing of the summer, with right-back Darren Moss signing a two-year deal at Christie Park this evening.
The 28-year-old, who has played almost 300 Football League games, joins from Shrewsbury Town after a two- year spell.
Moss started his career as a trainee at Chester City, and made his debut for the club in November 1998, before going on to play 62 games for them.
In June 2001, Moss joined Shrewsbury on a free transfer, where he saw the ups and downs of football as part of the side that were relegated to the Conference before bouncing back at the first attempt into the League, scoring the winning penalty in the Conference play-off semi-final against Barnet.
Darren's good form attracted interest from other clubs and in March 2005 he joined Dario Gradi at Crewe Alexandra for a fee of 170,000 before rejoining the Shrews in May 2007 on a free transfer.
He made 56 League appearances in two seasons, but after only being offered a one- year deal in the summer decided to make the switch to Morecambe – much to McIlroy's delight.
He said: "Darren is an very experienced defender at this level and I am delighted that he has agreed a move to Christie Park.
"And he will be an excellent addition to the squad."
