It has been sporting success all round for Stonyhurst with four major triumphs for the school to celebrate.

Firstly, Stonyhurst Under-14s netball and hockey team – made up of the same group of girls – has won a tournament in each sport this term.

The girls are Lancashire Champions in hockey, having won the Lancashire Schools’ Tournament .

They also won the netball cup at the Stonyhurst Invitation hockey and netball tournament, which saw 27 teams from all over the county taking part in a hugely successful day.

Head of girls’ games Emma Kay said: “This is a remarkable group of girls who just get better and better at both sports.

“It’s great that they are such versatile players and such a nice group of girls too – I’m very proud of them.”

And the boys were celebrating too after Stonyhurst’s 1st XV rugby squad won the Lancashire 18 Cup Final for the second year running, defeating Lancashire Grammar School 12-10 in a closely-fought match.

The same players went on to win the Stonyhurst Sevens Tournament – a nationally renowned competition attended by 600 players from all over the country.

The Stonyhurst team won the final 22-14 against King’s Macclesfield.
