DAILY TELEGRAPH: Liverpool’s 2009 Champions League tie against Debrecen was last night alleged to be one of 380 European games under suspicion of match-fixing. Also: Steven Gerrard has called on England’s fans to respect Ashley Cole’s “phenomenal” contribution to the national side when he wins his 100th cap against Brazil.

DAILY MIRROR: Liverpool were last night caught up in the match-fixing probe which has shocked football. Also: Chelsea were dealt another blow last night when Petr Cech confirmed that he had broken a finger.

THE INDEPENDENT: The head of Europol has warned football authorities in Britain not to be “naive” or “complacent” enough to believe that the problem of match-fixing, which he exposed on a massive global scale yesterday, does not extend to matches in this country. Also: Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey suggested yesterday that he was made the scapegoat for his team’s poor performance in the 3-1 defeat at Stoke City on Boxing Day - since when he has been left out on the periphery of the first team.

THE GUARDIAN: FIFA has called for longer prison sentences for criminals involved in match-fixing after the EU intelligence-sharing agency Europol said more than 700 matches worldwide are suspected of having been manipulated. Also: Steven Gerrard has become the first player in Roy Hodgson’s England squad to publicly express concerns about England’s position in their World Cup qualifying group and the possibility that unless there is an improvement, they may end up in the play-offs.
