Bailey Wright has been named in Australia’s World Cup squad.
The Preston central defender has been selected by head coach Ange Postecoglou for the tournament in Brazil.
Wright will be one of six defenders in the 23-man squad and is poised to become the first North End player to represent his country at a World Cup finals since Sir Tom Finney in 1958.
The Socceroos, who have been drawn in Group B, begin their World Cup campaign on Friday, June 13 against Chile at the Arena Pantanal, in Cuiaba.
They then meet the Netherlands the following Wednesday before playing their final group game against world champions Spain on Monday, June 23.
Wright, who played for the Aussies in a practice match yesterday against Brazilian club side Parana Clube, could make his full debut for his country on Saturday against Croatia in their final warm-up match.
