Premier League goalscoring legend Matt Le Tissier is looking forward to paying his first visit to Deepdale next month.

The scorer of some of English football’s greatest goals will be the guest speaker at a sportsman’s dinner, in aid of Help for Heroes, at Preston North End’s Invincibles Lounge on Thursday, April 5.

Having been one of the sport’s maverick stars during his time playing for Southampton and England during the 1990s and early 2000s, Le Tissier has a few interesting tales to tell.

He is now a respected football pundit with Sky Sports.

Le Tissier said: “It’s my first time at Deepdale. I’m looking forward to it very much.

“It’s also for a very good cause.

“I will be talking about my career, there will be a few stories about Sky Sports – a few things which go on behind the scenes which people don’t normally get to know about.

“I am enjoying doing the summarising. I have done about four or five matches so far. It’s a bit different to the normal Saturday afternoon job in the studio.”

Having scored so many great goals during his career, Le Tissier revealed which one is his own personal favourite.

“My own favourite goal was the one I scored against Blackburn at Ewood Park,” he said.

“It was against my old mate Tim Flowers and that forms part of my after dinner speaking – I will be talking about that when I come up to Preston.

“The goal was pretty good, but the fact it came against Tim made it even more special.”

The event is being staged by Unicorn FC, who play in the LEP Sunday Football League.

After being relegated from the Premier Division last season, Gary Jervis took over as manager while Neil Marginson became fundraising manager in a bid to raise the club’s profile and boost team spirit.

Club official Nick Edmondson said: “We set ourselves very high goals in the fundraising department and as a result decided that the club should have a chosen charity that we would raise money for.

“Our chosen charity is Help For Heroes and we will be wearing their logo on our shirts next season.”

Up for grabs in an auction on the night are signed shirts from Brazilian legend Pele, David Beckham shirt and Lionel Messi.

The club also has a Ryder Cup flag signed by Colin Montgomerie, a darts board signed by Premier League darts stars, a football signed by three World Cup winners and a photo of Muhammad Ali and the Beatles signed by Ali.

Preston snooker star Ian McCulloch will be MC for the evening and Denny Waters will be the comedian.
