Preston North End manager Simon Grayson is trying to conclude some incoming transfer business ahead of the transfer window shutting on Friday night.

Grayson has a couple of targets that he would like to bring to Deepdale, either in permanent deals or on loan until the end of the season.

At his Thursday morning press conference at Springfields, Grayson said: “We are in the process of trying to bring one or two players into the club, I’m not going to get away from the fact, but whether we can get them over the line is a different matter.

“We have always said that we only want players who will have an influence on the squad and are better than what we have already got or something different than what we have got.

“We are working hard to get people in, it might depend on one or two going out as well.”

Although the loan window opens up for Football League clubs at the end of next week, Grayson would prefer to do his business now.

Loans done during the loan window are limited to 93 days, while loans completed inside the January window can have a longer life span.

Grayson said: “In an ideal world if we were going to do a loan deal I don’t want to wait for an emergency loan, I’d want to do it until the end of the season so at least you know where you are.

“Doing a loan deal now until the end of the end of the season would cover all league games and potentially into the play-offs.

“We have the finances to go and buy players if we wish to do so, but they have to be the right players of the right calibre and we have to spend our money wisely.

“Many names have been thrown at us, I’ve seen us linked with X,Y and Z.

“Any manager will tell you that they always looking for as many players as we can.

“We might end up with three, two, one or none, that is the nature of a transfer window.

“Ideally I don’t want to be concluding deals the night before a game.

“Hopefully any business might be done today and then the players are ready and settled for the weekend.

“We will see where we are with it.”

Permanent signings have to be made by noon on Friday in order to play on Saturday.
