Ex-PNE star Mellor signs for LEP

A good read: Neil Mellor

A good read: Neil Mellor

The Lancashire Evening Post can unveil its new star signing...former Preston North End frontman Neil Mellor.

Mells is the LEP’s brand-new sports columnist, joining our band of top writers

Starting next week, he will be bringing you his views on all things Preston North End and the world of football every Thursday.

Neil said: “I’m really excited to be given this opportunity by the Lancashire Evening Post and cannot wait to get going.

“Even though my time as a player at PNE is over now, the club is still very close to my heart and I am desperate to see them get back where they belong.

“It’s a big year for everyone at Deepdale and I will be following their fortunes every step of the way throughout the season in my column.”

Neil was forced to retire from football at the end of the season after suffering a crippling knee injury.

He scored 43 goals in 87 starting appearances for North End since signing from Liverpool in August 2006.

And here’s how you can get involved too.

Neil will be answering questions from fans every week in a special section in his column.

All you have to do is tweet your question to him through our fantastic @LEP_football or @leponline Twitter page and we will select the best three each week for him to answer.

Just tweet your question using the hashtag #askmells and we will do the rest.

See the Evening Post next Thursday for Neil’s first no-holds-barred column – you won’t want to miss it.
