Warriors’ women raring to go!

editorial image

Leyland Warriors’ newest addition to the club’s playing roster are ready for action in 2013, having been training together for several months.

The women’s team is made up from a diverse mix of complete novices to several former junior players and have been working hard over the off-season to be ready to start playing in March.

The squad train together on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings and offer a warm welcome to all new players, whether you have previous experience or wish to try rugby for the first time.

In addition to the formation of the women’s team, the masters’ team for over-35s has gone from strength to strength over the winter.

Having had just 11 players for their inaugural fixture in December, they now have 21 players signed up.

Masters’ rugby league is a version of the sport with modified contact, with all the emphasis on skill and enjoyment.

There are several Lancashire derby games this weekend at Moss Side, with the masters playing Blackpool Stanley at 1pm, the open age team playing Accrington Panthers at 2.30pm on Saturday.

On Sunday, Warriors Under-14s entertain Blackpool Stanley with a 10.30am start. Anybody aged six and
above, interested in playing rugby league at a clubmark gold-accredited club
should contact Phil Roberts by calling 07928 549161 or

Leyland Warriors Under-15s beat Crosfield 40-22 in a friendly, with full-back Jacob Browne to the fore.

Cory Bennie (2) and Cal Jackson tries put Warriors 18-12 ahead, Bailey Locke converting. Jamie Joyce and Browne added converted tries, before Crosfields pulled it back to 30-18.

Bennie then completed his hat-trick, Locke improving the score with the kick, and then Browne rounded off the try scoring to make it 40-22.
