Red again as the Saints stay at top

St Bernard’s Red remain top of the First Division of the Preston and District Snooker League following their 5-2 win at Freckleton.

Ben Messent was their best player and included a 53 break in his 76-46 win over Brian Sharples. Richard Hoyles and Peter Cross took the points for Freckleton.

Elite A beat Fulwood Red by the same scoreline to stay one point adrift of the leaders.

But it was the Reds’ winners Roy Dymond and Andy Booker who took the honours.

Dymond beat Chris Norbury 83-23, and Booker’s 94-15 victory over Peter Brown included a break of 76 – the highest in the league last week.

Elite B whitewashed visitors Acregate A, clocking up the highest aggregate of the season – 558, with the main contributors Farahk Ajib 127 (including a 71 break), Johnny Hannon (125), and Lewis Almond (105).

Lea A beat hosts Riley Joes 6-1 to share the lead in the Second Division, with Dave Caffrey and Andy Bate prominent.

Caffrey’s 96-35 win over Mick Warburton included a break of 41, and Bate beat Martin Rawlinson 84-11.

Martin Bain beat Kenny Day 62-46 to prevent the whitewash.

Brownedge Red went one better, beating visitors Lonsdale 7-0 to join Lea on 43 points, with Matt Brown outstanding in a powerful team effort.

He recorded a break of 59 in beating Lonsdale’s top stick Simon Robertson 101-30.

St Joseph’s are five points clear at the top of Division Three following their clean sweep over visitors Hendrys B.

Carl Barnes, who beat Nick Chauhan 102-19, and Craig Crossley, with a 100-52 victory over Giz Singh starred for the Saints.

St George’s took maximum points form visitors Empire Services B to open up a one-point lead at the top of the Fourth Division, with Gordon Yates and Neil Kershaw the best of the Chorley Club.

Yates produced a 52 break to beat Bob Brown 77-40 and Kershaw’s 96-25 win over John Davis included a 30 break.

Leas B beat visitors Lostock Cons B 6-1 to remain in close pursuit of the title. Greg Leeming and Chris Topping were the pick of the winners.

Leeming put together a 38 break in his 92-9 win over Tony Harrison and Topping beat Stewart Westray 100-11.

Martin Woods beat Graeme Clarkson 50-23 to prevent the whitewash.

There are no league matches tomorrow night but teams drawn in the Six-Man Team handicap sponsored by St Bernard’s Catholic Men’s Club play first-round matches.
