Junior cricketers from clubs in South Ribble were celebrating a year of solid achievement recently when the area’s Cricket Development Group held its third annual presentation evening at South Ribble Civic Centre, Leyland.

The Mayor of South Ribble Colin Clark and radio presenter Dave Swanton were on hand to present certificates and awards to a host of young cricketers who had defied the weather and had enjoyed seasons to be proud of.

The Under-13s boys’ squad were overall winners of the Merseyside and South West Lancashire’s District Competition and also reached the final of the County Under-13s Hacking Cup competition.

Not to be outdone, the Under-11s girls’ squad went through 2012 undefeated and were asked to represent Lancashire at the North Regional finals of the outdoor Lady Taverners competition, though heavy rain caused its cancellation.
