Preston and South Ribble-trained Imran Aswat (above)claimed a straight sets 6-3 7-5 win against Marko Djokovic for his biggest career win to date in the first round of the AEGON Pro Series in Bamber Bridge.

Aswat, who claimed his first ranking point later last year, gained a wild card after qualifying in Glasgow last week, was meeting Djokovic – ranked 660 in the world – for the first time.

Fellow local player George Morgan progressed when Daniel Smethurst retired injured at one-set all.

There were also wins for British players Dan Evans, Lewis Burton, Edward Corrie, Tom Farquharson, Sean Thornley, Toby Martin, Andrew Fitzpatrick, Marcus Willis, Alex Ward and Neil Pauffley, who beat top seed Josh Goodall 7-6 7-6.
