Burscough face the toughest of tasks this evening when they try to inflict the first league defeat of the season on Skelmersdale United.

Tommy Lawson’s men are hot favourites to win the Northern Premier League First Division North after winning 15 of their first 17 games.

They are in third position in the table – four points behind leaders Mossley with seven games in hand.

The Linnets, though, will relish the opportunity of ending their long unbeaten run at Victoria Park.

Elsewhere in the division, Bamber Bridge have a great opportunity to put three points on the board when they welcome lowly Prescot Cables to Irongate.

Chorley will attempt to play their Doodson Cup third-round tie against Cammell Laird this evening at Victory Park.

Southport face Conference Premier leaders Wrexham tonight – four days after losing 3-1 to them in the FA Trophy.

Port were due to face Kendal Town in the LFA Trophy but that game has been postponed.
