Preston North End Reserves will provide Manchester City’s wayward star Carlos Tevez with his first taste of action in five months today.
The Argentina international is set to face North End’s second string in a Central League Group Cup at City’s training ground this afternoon.
It was a game scheduled to be played at Chorley’s Victory Park tomorrow but City requested the switch to Carrington and it will be played behind closed doors.
Tevez hasn’t played for City since September after refusing to warm up during their Champions League tie with Bayern Munich.
He then effectively became the South American hide-and-seek champion by taking unauthorised leave back home in Argentina, only returning to England a fortnight ago.
City are keen for the 28-year-old to get some reserve games under his belt before returning him to the first-team fold.
The North End side which travels to Carrington is expected to include Daniel Devine, Bailey Wright, Brian McLean and Jamie Proctor.
PNE and City are in a four-team group in the League Cup, together with Morecambe and Tranmere.
So far, North End have beaten Tranmere 2-1 and lost 3-2 to Morecambe.
The media exposure which Tevez gets has led to City requesting the game be staged behind closed doors. They usually play their reserve games at Hyde, while this was originally PNE’s home fixture.
