Parrish sees red as Shrimps crash

Marching orders: Andy Parrish was sent off for two bookable offences

Plymouth 2

Morecambe 1

Morecambe’s away day blues continued with another defeat on the road.

The Shrimps suffered their second defeat of the season to a poor Plymouth side and only had themselves to blame as they gifted Argyle both goals and wasted several clear chances to get something from the game.

To make matters worse they also saw Andy Parrish sent off for two bookable offences late in the game.

Plymouth started the game sharply after introducing John Sheridan as their new manager before the game and were soon ahead.

With just 10 minutes played Gary McDonald failed to clear the loose ball on the edge of his own area.

And home skipper
Conor Hourihane took full advantage with a sweet right-footed strike that flew into the left-hand corner of Barry Roche’s goal.

The Shrimps conceded a sloppy second goal just five minutes.

A mix up between Izak Reid and Parrish allowed Plymouth new boy Ronan Murray a clear run down the left.

And his low cross was slotted home from close range by Paris Cowan-Hall who beat Will Haining to the ball.

From there Morecambe dominated and almost pulled one back when Kevin Ellison forced Rene Gilmartin
into a sharp save with his
legs with a shot from close range.

Reid also wasted a good opportunity after being put through by being Lewis Alessandra as he opted out of testing Gilmartin and gave the ball away sloppily.

The Shrimps’ pressure continued after the half-time break.

But once again chances went begging as Jordan Burrow missed a golden opportunity when he failed to find the target from six yards out from Robbie Threlfall’s fine cross.

The dominance finally came to fruition when the Shrimps pulled a goal back on 79 minutes through newcomer Ryan Williams.

The midfielder let fly with a superb, dipping effort from 25 yards that gave Gilmartin no chance as it flew into the top left-hand corner.

Morecambe then wasted another clear chance to take a point when Jack Redshaw diverted a superb Williams cross wide from only four yards out when he looked certain to score.

The drama continued with Parrish getting his marching orders five minutes from time for a second foul as Plymouth went close to a third
when Murray hit the post with a shot from the edge of the
area.
