A first-ever League Two victory over Accrington Stanley is the target for Morecambe this evening.

The Shrimps welcome Stanley to the Globe Arena and will be hoping to register their first win over them since both clubs became Football League outfits.

They have met on 10 occasions in the league since Morecambe won promotion from the Conference Premier in 2007, with Stanley holding sway – winning seven times and yet to taste defeat.

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley knows all about Stanley’s superiority in the head-to-head matches, having played in a number of them down the years.

However, he will be buoyed by the fact that his team defeated Stanley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy earlier this season.

Goals from Jack Redshaw and Kevin Ellison handed Morecambe a 2-0 victory at the Crown Ground in September.

Bentley, who watched his side draw 1-1 with Rochdale in the FA Cup first round on Saturday, said: “We turned them over in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy but it’s another difficult game.

“It’s a derby and matches against Accrington are always tasty games to play in. It’s one of those fixtures which the fans look for, with it being two locals sides. They had a good win over Fylde in the FA Cup on Saturday but it’s a game we will look to try to win.”

In the Lancashire FA Trophy, Chorley travel to Kendal Town, AFC Fylde host Atherton LR and Burscough are away to Rochdale Town.
