McIlroy won't fear ringing the changes

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy could ring the changes at second-placed Bury tonight in response to Saturday's shocker at Cheltenham Town.

The 2-0 defeat at Whaddon Road dented the Shrimps' play-off hopes, and McIlroy said: "There can be no excuse for the performance at Cheltenham, it was a dreadful show.

"Cheltenham wanted it more than we did, and I had to question our commitment, which I've not had to do very often since I came to Morecambe.

"It kicks you in the teeth when you get a performance like that – I was very disappointed.

"I've got an honest group of lads here and I rarely have to question their desire for the job, but I did against Cheltenham.

"They were hungrier, and we couldn't deal with their-long ball game.

"The two goals we conceded showed a poor lack of judgment, collectively we were very poor."

McIlroy added: "We did everything right in terms of preparation, travelling down on Friday, so there were no excuses.

"It was like chalk and cheese compared to our display against Burton Albion, when we fought back magnificently to take the points.

"I certainly couldn't see it coming after two good wins against Darlington and Burton and I'm considering making changes tonight."
